Tasmania is located in a moderate maritime climate zone and has four distinct seasons. Mainly the rainfall varies a lot because of the mountainous areas and the fact that the island is on the northern edge of an airstream called "Roaring Forties". Compared to the other Australian states, Tasmania has the heaviest rainfall – 3600mm in the western parts. In the west and north-west the rainfall is heaviest in winter, while in the east and south-east it is more equally distributed around the year. In the highlands can be snowy and the temperatures usually doesn’t exceed 25°C in the summer.
