The Mount Field National Park in Tasmania is home to the popular ski resort of Mount Mawson, which is only on 90 minutes drive from Hobart and its airport. The winter resort is situated at 1250 meters above the sea level and is owned and operated by the Southern Tasmanian Ski Association. Although the snowfalls at Mt Mawson are not very predictable, usually there are good skiing conditions from July to middle of September with skiable terrain suitable to all capability levels. Guest can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, moguls, carving, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing. Après-ski and other tourist attractions feature visits to the Mount Field National Park, taking a rainforest hike, wildlife trips, Russell Falls, Fern Forests and Lake Dobson.

The skiing area of Mt Mawson has a vertical drop of seventy meters and includes 4 ski pistes over thirty-five hectares (Beginners - 30%, Intermediate - 50%, Advanced - 20%). Cross-country skiing is also possible on ten kilometers of terrain on Mt Field west, Tarn Shelf and Rodway range. Mount Mawson offers good choice of accommodations - ski chalets, cottages and great hotels encircle Mount Mawson and one can also stay in bed and breakfast cottages in the nearby town of Magra, in the magnificent Derwent valley.
