Transportation
By Car
Access to the Gold Coast Highway, which goes through the length of the Coast, is off the Pacific Highway from Sydney or Brisbane. The drive takes around eighty minutes from Brisbane. From Sydney it is about eleven-hour trip, but sometimes might be longer, on the crowded, run-down Pacific Highway.
By Plane
Domestic flights land at Gold Coast Airport, Coolangatta, which is twenty-five kilometers (16 miles) south of Surfers Paradise. Qantas has direct flights from Sydney and Adelaide. QantasLink flies from Brisbane and Newcastle. Virgin Blue operates flies directly from Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, and Adelaide. The Gold Coast Tourist Shuttle meets every flight and will transfer you to your accommodations at various fees depending on the age. A taxi from the airport to Surfers Paradise is about A$30 (US$24) but may be higher if traffic is too heavy.
The nearest international gateway is Brisbane International Airport and a Coachtrans Airporter bus meets most flights and makes about twenty trips a day from the domestic and international terminals at Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast accommodations. The trip takes about one and half hour to Surfers Paradise.
By Bus
Coachtrans runs between Brisbane and Gold Coast accommodations. Greyhound Australia has daily stops at Surfers Paradise from Sydney and Brisbane (the trip from Sydney takes 14-15 hours, and this from Brisbane is about ninety minutes.
By Train
Suburban trains leave Brisbane Central and Roma Street stations on every half hour for the 70 minutes trip to the Gold Coast suburb of Robina. There are lots local buses, which meet the trains to take passengers to Surfers Paradise.
