Bathurst was proclaimed a city in the year 1815 whereby it has developed slowly to accommodate so many people including the visitors who come to see the wonders of nature around this town. It developed as the main supply of agricultural products got from the area. The town is located on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range which is 209km from Sydney. The town has a population of about 26,050 which seems to increase whenever tourists visit the town as tourists. It is believed to be the oldest inland settlement in Australia which is known for its gold discoveries and this is why many visitors like visiting the area to tour the goldfields. The climate of this town is quite different form climates in other area and this is also a reason why most people like the place. There is a cool climate experienced in the town. It snows in the winter and people have to prevent themselves from adverse weather conditions during winter. It is true that Bathurst is less than 100km west of Katoomba on the Great Highway of the New South Wales state.

 

Travelling to Bathurst is very easy simply because of its strategic location along the Great Western Highway. People can travel to this place by car simply because the highway is well maintained and is only about 3 hour drive from Sydney along this great highway. People can use their own cars or higher cars from Sydney which will actually take them straight to this town. There are also package tours that are available within the town. Their work is to assist people in touring the place since it is hard to go round it by foot. Tourists can hire the package tours to be taken to the biggest tourist hotels in the town and enjoy to the maximum. There is also accommodation in Bathurst whereby the houses get filled especially during the school holidays or the long weekends when many visitors are expected. It is advisable to book a room as early as possible to avoid frustration especially when the houses get filled before getting one during the peak time.
There are many attraction sites within Bathurst. The most interesting thing with this town is that there is availability of the extinct species of animals known as dinosaurs. Many people like visiting this place so as to have a look at these animals which many people only hear of them but they have never set their eyes on them. We also have Abercrombie Caves found in the south of the Bathurst and contain limestone which attract many people. This town is the home of the famous Australian Prime Minister, Ben Chifley who ruled between 1945 and1949 and people enjoy seeing the Bathurst District Historical Museum which contains historical items that belonged to the Prime Minister. There is also the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum which attracts many people.
