UK language courses
As the world's lingua franca, more people are choosing to learn English than every before. English language schools can be found all over the world, and these days, while it is difficult to measure accurately, there are said to be almost 1 billion English speakers worldwide. UK language courses are some of the most popular courses in the world, as many travel to the birthplace of the English tongue in order to immerse themselves in British language and culture.
Compare, for example, the average English or American young person's desire to learn Japanese with the average Japanese child's ambition to improve their English. Western culture is a huge industry in Japan, and this isn't indicated merely by the quantity of Japanese McDonalds chains. Children and adults alike are eager to learn English so they can join in with many of Western culture's most popular 'gifts' to humanity: Western music, Hollywood blockbusters and the fast-food culture that spreads like wildfire wherever Stars and Stripes are in visual range. Japanese pop music (or J-pop, for the aficionados) is basically Japanese lyrics punctuated by 'cool' broken English (or 'Engrish') phrases and words, regardless of the actual context of the tune. For foreigners in the land of the rising sun (or 'gaijin', as the Japanese call them), even enrolling in Japanese courses in Japan will not offer you much aid in descrambling these strange-sounding soundbites.
Spanish is fast becoming a popular choice as a second language: with over 364 million speakers worldwide (making it the most popular romance language worldwide), thousands of young men and women choose to learn Spanish every day to join the ever-growing throng of Spanish speakers - especially in Mexico and areas of North America with plenty of Hispanic neighbourhoods. With Spain being a popular choice for European holidaymakers (in particular British expats and package holiday tourists), many take Spanish language courses in Spain in order to aid their language abilities.
